An amazing group of leaders

For the past six weeks, 10 young adults who hailed from Arizona to New York volunteered at Habitat for Humanity of Summit and Wasatch Counties. As part of the AmeriCorps NCCC team, their goal is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based national and community service.

Park City was the fourth and final stop for this particular NCCC team. They also spent time serving in Louisiana, Oregon and California. Their projects have ranged from FEMA flood and disaster relief, to preservation and restoration of native species in wild spaces. While they do not choose their destination cities, they have committed 10 months of their lives to selflessly helping others in the communities where they are sent.

Over the last six weeks the team worked more than 2,200 hours in the community! They worked on more than 6 projects ranging in scope from house maintenance and cleanup for an elderly disabled couple, to landscaping one of Habitat’s newest homes. They also had an opportunity to participate in some unique local events, including Park City’s 4th of July Parade, and spent some time on Park City Television’s Mountain Morning Show.

It has been a pleasure to have the AmeriCorps NCCC team work with us and we look forward to hosting another team next year!

Local Businesses Rally For Habitat!

LOCAL BUSINESSES RALLY TO COMPLETE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY LANDSCAPING PROJECT

With the help of many amazing sponsors and volunteers, Habitat for Humanity’s newest homeowner now has a great yard where she and her twin boys can enjoy their summer days. While the construction of their home was completed in the winter, landscaping had to wait until the weather would cooperate.

Critical to the completion of the project were Park City Mountain Resorts’ Mountain Engineering and Response Center Team volunteers. Exemplifying Vail EpicPromise’s spirit of volunteerism, the group provided leadership and manpower to help with the project. Other local businesses including DRC Excavation, Wild Willies Yard Services, TriCity Nursery and Power Equipment Rental, generously donated materials and services needed for the project’s completion.

According to Shellie Barrus, Executive Director of Habitat, “We are thrilled to finish this final piece of the project, so our homeowners can fully enjoy the benefits of homeownership.”
