ReStore vs. Thrift Store: What’s the Difference?

Thrifting is a great way to save money, reduce waste, and find interesting items at affordable prices. But shopping at ReStore offers something traditional thrift stores can’t: by delivering better value, a broader selection of items you need, and, best of all, a clear and measurable impact in our local community.

Shop smarter and support a cause you care about by choosing ReStore, and read on to find out how ReStore is different from a thrift store.

What is Habitat’s ReStore?

The Park City ReStore is a thrift store and boutique operated by Habitat for Humanity of Summit & Wasatch Counties, supporting our efforts to provide stable, affordable housing to working individuals in our mountain towns. Like a traditional thrift store, we sell a variety of new and gently used goods at discounted prices. And we rely on local citizens and businesses to donate usable goods to keep them out of landfills.

But here’s where ReStore offers you more: The proceeds from your purchases at ReStore directly fund Habitat’s local home-building initiatives. And that means buying that couch you have your eye on can help change the lives of your friends and neighbors.

Why Shop at ReStore vs. a Thrift Store?

Is ReStore a thrift store? No, it’s more than that. The inventory at ReStore can’t be matched by a thrift store. With donations coming from local retailers, home renovators, contractors, and manufacturers, you’ll find a greater variety of items at a ReStore than at a thrift store. Appliances, building materials, electronics, sports gear, holiday and seasonal items – all can be found at Park City ReStore. And with new inventory arriving every day, you never know what treasures are waiting for you.

Whether you’re looking for decor as the finishing touch for your home or remodeling on a budget, ReStore has the right pieces at the right prices to complete your project. Not sure about buying big-ticket appliances or electronics that are pre-owned? That’s where ReStore’s Product Protection Plan comes into play. The warranty under this plan lasts for 30 days. If the item doesn’t meet your requirements, you can exchange it or receive store credit.

ReStore Shopping Tips

To get the most out of your Restore shopping experience, you’ll want to make a list of what you’re looking for. If you’re in the market for larger items, like furniture or appliances, take measurements before you leave home. That way, when you find your perfect pieces at ReStore, you can make sure they’ll fit in your space.

And don’t worry about being able to transport them back home. ReStore offers local delivery for a small fee, so when you find the right items, ask a ReStore manager about the delivery process and cost.
